Founded in 1987, Dyson began as a project by James Dyson after he has bought a faulty vacuum from his local Walmart. The vacuum became clogged easily and lost suction over a period of time. Dyson ended up returning his vacuum and vowed to create the best vacuum cleaner the world had ever seen. 6 years later, Dyson founded his own business and began creating vacuum cleaners designed for longevity and value.
During the first few years of business, Dyson created over 5000 prototypes for new vacuums and other appliances such as bladeless fans and hand dryers. The original red and blue vacuum became a great success, and soon the company became a great competitor to the likes of Hoover and other vacuuming companies around the world. The first publicly designed vacuum from Dyson was the Cyclon, which was patented and sold through Rotork.
In the years following the first sales, companies around the world expressed interest in Dyson designs, and the company explored more countries around the world, rising in sales along the way. Dyson tech was finally licensed in North American in 2001 when it entered the market and directly and no longer through another company (Fantom Technologies). The clear dust bin, which can be found on all Dyson vacuums, is one of the features that have remained since the companies inception. Called a gamble by some, it is now one of the most recognisable features in Dyson technology today.
Originally named Dyson Appliances Ltd, today the company is simply known as Dyson Ltd, and sell a range of appliances and tech for the modern user.
