Arriva provide several helping operations online to help their customers access their services easily. They have created a guide to show where they operate within the UK split into regions like North East, Yorkshire, North West, Wales, Midlands, Beds & Bucks, Herts & Essex and Kent & Surrey. Selecting a region on their website shows which buses operate within this area. Arriva buses run in most UK towns and regions so it should be easy to find a bus route somewhere near you.
Arriva offer travel help and accessibility to all of their customers to make sure that they can provide service to everyone, and include special help for specific groups of people. For pupils that don’t have access to free home-to-school travel, there is a section to find routes and deals for them, meaning that parents don’t have to worry about expensive travel costs if they don’t live in an accessible area for free school travel options. Similarly, there are options for student deals, providing links and opportunities for students travelling to and from university and college to find an inexpensive and reliable travel method. For senior travel, Arriva provides information about concessionary travel schemes and help to make sure seniors can travel with their travel cards easily. Arriva also focus on making sure there is an availability for easier travel for disabled customers. There is also an Arriva bus app which helps to find bus times, nearest bus stops and how to get to a specific location, which makes nervous travellers lives easier.
There is an option to find services and timetables for your journey, which allows you to either search your service number, town or postcode and you will be given information about services near you and a timetable for the specified services. This makes it easier for customers to travel specifically from their home if they know when and where their bus will be stopping. There is also the opportunity to use the journey planner which helps to step out where and when you will be using specific bus services.
Arriva offer the ability to track your bus if you’re worried you will be late, or to see where your bus is if you think the bus itself is late. By entering the name of the stop or station that you’ll be travelling from, Arriva will load a map that shows the location of all buses that will be accessing your bus stop in real time, and you can then locate the bus you will be using. This might also be useful to see if the bus you’re travelling on is the right one, as you can follow where the bus is going in relation to your stop and see if it is heading in the direction of your destination.
Arriva also allow their customers to create a personalised timetable, which asks you to input your boarding and alighting locations, and will then provide a booklet that shows all connections you will need. This booklet is available for download to the Arriva app and helps you to stick to your travel plans if you’re travelling in a time-restrained manner.
There are multiple places to buy your bus tickets when travelling with Arriva. You have the opportunity to buy them online, with multi-journey Saver and Student Saver tickets available for purchase for long term travel arrangements. Arriva have worked to make sure they have provided a secure payment site for their use, to provide their customers with a safe and satisfactory experience. You can also use the Arriva m-ticket app which allows you to buy daily, weekly, four-weekly, annual and Student Saver tickets within the app, and is secure, quick and easy to use. Both of these options allow you to hold your tickets electronically and don’t require paper waste.
Alternatively, you can purchase your tickets in local shops, as many shops let you buy tickets and top up m-ticket accounts within them. You may be best checking if your local shop offers these services, but it may make many of your journeys significantly easier if you can pick up your tickets with your shopping. Lastly, you can obviously buy many types of tickets on your bus, with options available from single journey tickets to a weekly saver, although it is advised that you carry the correct fare with you as your driver may not have sufficient change.

If you wish to apply for a job with Arriva, they certainly have a large list of opportunities for you to apply for jobs with them. There are multiple careers within the bus industry to apply for, including bus drivers, instructors & examiners, depot management, bus mechanics/engineers and head office positions. All of these roles play important parts within the maintenance of the company and are equally important to find positions for. Not only do Arriva require permanent positions within their workforce, they also offer the chance for apprenticeships in their company. There are three engineering apprenticeship types with Arriva, in mechanical, electrical or bus body parts roles. Each of these last four years, and split their time between residential college training and on the job training. The college training typically takes between 12-14 weeks per year, and are usually separated into blocks of four allowing you to apply the expertise you’ve learnt in college back into your on the job training. All travel and accommodation is provided, which helps make the job significantly easier to take part in for many people. Schemes are ran across the UK for Arriva apprenticeships.
Arriva also offer graduate opportunities to apply for, which are fast-track schemes in General and Engineering Management. These are available in all of Arriva’s services, with UK bus, UK rail and Mainland Europe, and are divided into two streams: General management programmes and Engineering management programmes (which is much more technically led). These two options allow graduates to learn directly into the roles and creates management positions for the people training up for them.

Usually on Bank Holidays, Arriva services usually assume Sunday timetables, with the exception of Christmas Holidays. Around Christmas time many local bus services will follow specific timetable changes, but all services gradually reduce on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve after 6pm and ending at 9pm, and there are no services running on Christmas Day and New Years Day. Some services will run on Boxing Day, but you should check your local bus station to find out how your bus services will be run through the Christmas period. Between Christmas Eve and New Years Day, all services will usually be run on Saturday schedules.
During Easter, services will be mildly changed. On Good Friday and Easter Monday, most services will follow Sunday timetables, yet the Saturday and Sunday services will follows their usual timetables.

To access an m-ticket, you have to download the Arriva M-Ticket app from either the App Store for iPhone users or the Play Store for Android users, and register your details within the app by clicking the the icon in the top right hand corner of the home screen. You will then receive a PIN code for your M-Ticket app, which allows you to access the app. You can then select and purchase your ticket through the app, and pay using either a debit or credit card. When you’re ready to use the ticket you can activate it in the app, and display the ticket on the phone screen to your bus driver. Your ticket will run from the date you activate it not the date you purchase it, so you can save tickets to use at a later date and they will remain on your app until they’re used.
